Neural modeling of transient focal symptoms


I develop neural network models of visual cortex to model
the neurological symptoms of migraine in terms of
functional cortical organization and nonlinear wave
dynamics.

Furthermore, I collect data on multiple time and length
scales, from electrophysiology to functional imaging
(fMRI), and match this data against computer-assisted
diagnostic reports of focal symptoms. This provides a
unique set of data linking physiological and mathematical
pictures of the cellular dynamics of neurological
disorders.

The main goal of my research is to understand cortical
susceptibility to transient focal symptoms in terms of
neural circuitry, and to use the knowledge to develop
novel strategies in migraine therapeutics.
